About this position

We’re currently on the lookout for talented software engineers to join us in our (fast growing) studio in SOMA, San Francisco.

So if think you’ve got what it takes to build digital products and services that break new ground for some of the biggest brands on the planet, we can’t wait to hear from you.

About the role:

At Potato, best in class software development and human-centred design are at the heart of everything we do. We’re a talented bunch of problem solvers who are committed to finding a better way; delivering smarter products that provide more satisfying experiences and more valuable outcomes for our clients and their users. Our clients include Google, Mozilla and the BBC.

There are plenty of technical acronyms or different frontend frameworks, but fundamentally we’re looking for intelligent people who have an eagerness to learn new things, and the communication skills to be able to explain them to humans such as project managers and our clients.

As part of one of our friendly, supportive, proactive Agile product teams, you’ll play a vital role in helping us build excellent simple, reliable, maintainable software, meeting user and stakeholder needs and timelines (no pressure). We want to put you and your team in a position to write and deploy the best code that you can.

About you:

We expect developers at Potato to be able to find creative solutions to technical problems and user needs, whilst also finding opportunities to optimise and simplify software. For this role, we’re looking for people capable of producing excellent software, striking the right balance between perfection and delivery.

Keeping up with front end frameworks can be a daunting task, it seems that the landscape is always changing. We are looking for people who are progressive, adaptable and up to the challenge of working on a cutting edge tech stack. We enjoy talking to front end software engineers who have an appreciation of the full web stack.

You must have:

  • Experience in building for the web. You should know POSH (Plain Old Semantic HTML), CSS and preprocessors such as LESS & SASS
  • Knowledge of JavaScript frameworks & libraries such as AngularJS, Angular 2+, React and Vue
  • Evidence of using Git (or any DVCS) to manage parallel development on a large codebase

Ideally, you also:

  • Experience building for scale: high traffic, big data, large feature sets
  • Experience in the development & consumption of HTTP APIs
  • An understanding of Agile methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
  • Evidence of your work meeting accessibility standards
  • Experience in integrating Google Apps & APIs
  • Knowledge of testing and QA tools and methodologies. We make QA a team effort
